About this site

Purpose of this site

This site exists of a self designed and developed CMS (Content Management System) following the directions of Web 2.0. It will finally become an interactieve applicatie, with Ajax forms, Markdown syntax instead of HTML tags, TagCloud, visual effects, easy navigation, friendly URL's for search engines, etc.

Technical setup of this site

In use for the technical setup of this site are:

  • symfony, a PHP framework, originally based on a combination of Mojavi (MVC), Propel (ORM) and Ruby On Rails helpers.
  • Prototype, a JavaScript framework. Featuring a unique, easy-to-use toolkit for class-driven development and the nicest Ajax library around.
  • Script.aculo.us library, for advanced visual effects..
  • JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), a data-interchange format.

Next to that jQuery, Dojo or YUI will be used. The choice depends on further developments within the application.

The used icon set Silk Icons, contains over 700 icons in PNG-format, and is downloadable at http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/silk/.

symfony and Ruby on Rails

symfony is elegant and I like it a lot. It's Enterprise-ready, but not much used within the larger companies, that will eventually change, one thing I am sure of. That's why I am also building this in Ruby on Rails, nice comparising material. Later more about this.
